  Michigan Genealogical Council
  The Michigan Genealogical Council was organized on April 6, 1972 in Lansing, Michigan by representatives from ten Michigan genealogical societies and representatives from the Library of Michigan. Subsequent Workshops were held annually for many years, hosted by member societies around the state. The variety of locations provided an opportunity for more society members to attend these educational Workshops and to create interest from the general public. Delegate meetings are in Lansing, Michigan, in January, March, May, July, September, and November. Please check the Community Calendar for the exact date, time and location. The MGC Newsletter is published four times per year.
  Oakland County Genealogical Society
  The Oakland County Genealogical Society was founded in 1977 and is a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. Donations, gifts and legacies are deductible. The Society shall promote and encourage an interest in genealogy and related fields among its members and the general public. The objectives of the Society shall be to locate, publish, and safeguard public and private genealogical records and to encourage and instruct in the science of genealogical research and compilation through workshops, sharing, and other educational means.

  Bureau of Land Management
  The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), General Land Office (GLO) Records Automation web site. We provide live access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States, including image access to more than five million Federal land title records issued between 1820 and the present. We also have images related to survey plats and field notes, dating back to 1810. Due to organization of documents in the GLO collection, this site does not currently contain every Federal title record issued for the Public Land States.
  Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System
  The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System is a computerized database containing very basic facts about servicemen who served on both sides during the Civil War. The initial focus of the CWSS is the Names Index Project, a project to enter names and other basic information from 6.3 million soldier records in the National Archives. The facts about the soldiers were entered from records that are indexed to many millions of other documents about Union and Confederate Civil War soldiers maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration.

  The Burton Historical Collection
  All materials in the Burton Collection are reference and cannot leave the reading room. Material is accessed through a number of card catalogs. Only items that have been added to the collection since 1987 are in the library's iBistro electronic catalog. Photocopying is subject to approval; many items are fragile, oversized or subject to other restrictions and cannot be placed on a copier. Use of patron's digital camera may be permitted for items not approved for photocopying. Inquiries may be made by phone, mail (including e-mail), and in person. A list of researchers is provided to those needing extensive research. The Burton Historical Collection is both a repository of records of the past and a workshop of historical activity in the present. Its emphasis is on the history of Detroit and Michigan from the time of settlement in the 17th century to the present. The background history encompasses the Great Lakes area, New England, and New France. One will find local and county histories for both the United States and Canada. Noted for its source material, the Collection contains books, pamphlets, bound newspapers, atlases, maps, pictures, photographs, personal papers, archives, business records, and ephemeral items such newspaper clippings, broadsides, and scrapbooks.
  Early Detroit Images from the Burton Historical Collection
  The Library of Michigan Digitization for Preservation and Access Grant was awarded to the Detroit Public Library in 2005. The grant allowed for the creation of a digital database of 19th century and pre-1922 photographs of Detroit. The formats include glass negatives, lantern slides, cased images, albumen prints and stereograph cards from the Detroit Public Library's Burton Historical Collection. These images illustrate the social and cultural history of Detroit as well as document the historical events that have occurred in the city.

  The Burton Historical Collection has over 250,000 images which were cataloged in a traditional card catalog arranged by subject and, thereunder, by name of subject. There is also an online, searchable, digital database of 13,000 (pre-1922) images available.

  Metro Detroit Catholic Cemeteries Database
  A database of burial records of six metro-Detroit Catholic cemeteries is now on-line. Cemeteries include Mt. Elliot, Mt. Olivet. Resurection, All Saints, Guardian Angel, and The Preserve which are all part of the Mt. Elliot Cemetery Association. The burials cover the years 1810 - 2011. Not all burials are listed and dates of death are missing on some burials.
  Michigan Cemetery Source Database
  The Michigan Cemetery Source Database began as a printed biography of cemetery readings available in the Library of Michigan. As publishing an update became impossibly expensive, the bibliography was converted into an on-line database which is free to all. Viewers will find a list of cemetery listings (burial lists) available as well as links to cemetery lists which are on-line. Searches can be made by county, township, location, and cemetery name. This does NOT include a name index.

  The Library of Michigan is still open for business and remains one of the best genealogy resources in the midwest. The current Library of Michigan hours are Monday thru Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The library is closed on weekends and State holidays. The Library of Michigan has wireless internet available on site. If you would like to access the Library's collection of subscription databases, library PCs are available for patron use on the second floor.
