This softcover book contains the records of the admission and departure dates of infants and children who were housed there. The Home for the Friendless, formed in 1862, later evolved into the Children's Aid Society. Some children were boarders whose mothers worked or were unable to care for them. Some children may have been sent out to work as servants, and some returned to parents or other relatives, while others went to adoptive or foster homes. The names, and often the addresses, of the people adopting or taking these children are given. The children came from a large geographic region, not restricted to Detroit, and were placed in homes in Michigan, other states and Canada. Published in 1995, the book is 99 pages including the index. |
