These marriage and death records were abstracted from Grand Rapids newspapers prior to the time when official registration of these events were required in Michigan. The records were taken from the following newspapers: The Grand Rapids Daily Democrat (Sept. 4, 1865 - Dec. 26, 1866); the Grand Rapids Daily Eagle (May 26, 1856-Aug. 3, 1860 and Feb. 6, 1863 - Dec. 31, 1864); the Grand Rapids Daily Herald (Dec. 8, 1855); the Grand Rapids Weekly Eagle (Feb. 25, 1864-Jan. 10, 1867); and the Grand River Eagle (May 26, 1847-May 12, 1848 and June 23, 1848-Oct. 21, 1851.) Marriages give the name of the bride and groom, date and location of the marriage and some include biographical information. Deaths give the name of deceased, date of death and/or burial, age at death, and sometimes the names of parents. These notices are for the entire state of Michigan, not just the Grand Rapids area. Published in 2001, this softbound book is 106 pages, including an all-name index. |
